THE DIVERS EQUIPMENT IS AS FOLLOWS

The equipment comprises a canvas diving suit, neck entry with a rubber collar and attached mitts. The breastplate attaches to the collar by 3 bolts, and the rubber flange is sandwiched between the breastplate flange and the helmet flange making the outfit completely watertight. The shoes are made of leather and cast iron and the diver wears a belt from which is attached a knife. There is a back weight and a chest weight in which there are stored 2 high pressure cylinders .These are operated by way of a valve on the divers chest and connected to the helmet with a hose . The point of this contrivance is to supply the diver with enough air to reach the surface should the main supply fail . An additional weight is fitted to the weight strap and is located between the divers legs . This is the sitting weight . Air is pumped from the surface through an air hose which is connected to the back of the helmet. The pressure in the helmet is slightly higher than the surrounding water and the expired air is expelled through an exaust valve which can be manually operated from inside the helmet.. Communication is through a cable connected to a receiver and a speaker inside the helmet. The helmet is made of spun copper and in this case the breastplate is coated with a preservative coating to help prevent corrosion. There is a removable front window which screws into the helmet just before the diver submerges. The total weight of the equipment excluding the air hose and the telephone cable is 85Kgs.
